Artificial Intelligence has been a hot topic for many years, yielding different perspectives and views regarding its “benefits” and “risks.” Nowadays, there is a variety of applications that use and employ AI. It is used in many areas to achieve certain tasks. For instance, usages range from medical uses to facial recognition; such a variety raises numerous issues in many fields. I will try to address some ethical issues.
One of the most renowned issues is the loss of jobs as a result of automation. Indeed, there are advantages and drawbacks in everything. For instance, self-driving trucks could lower the risk of accidents, but wouldn’t millions of drivers lose their jobs? Wouldn’t such a change create an economic chaos? The transition is not simple whatsoever.
Notwithstanding, we shall delve into discussions regarding any move of such impact. Another example would be “Evil Genes,” a dilemma that has been discussed many times. The big question is, what if AI turns against us? Good/evil are human terms, indeed, but do we know how an AI could decide what is good/bad? Would it be able to fulfill our wishes? Probably! But what if that was accompanied with catastrophic repercussions? Would be able to teach AI how humans think/feel? Would it be a wise move to let an AI decide our fate? Should we “limit” its use to the degree that we “control” it? Is that even possible?
There are more complex ethical issues to be addressed. I, hereby, urge to read and think about the aforementioned issues. What if it already is? “Person Of Interest” is a TV show that discussed some of the issues in a sophisticated way. You might want to watch it to get started.
Let us know what you think.
